Vintage or Antique Solid Wood Frame Maker's Mould
This is a lovely solid display piece for a shelf or gallery wall.
As far as my research suggests, the two carved motifs were apparently filled with plaster and used to create the decorative accents on gilt frames to make them look like fancy wooden carved frames.
This is according to an article I recently read in "World of Interiors" magazine, which you can see here: https://www.worldofinteriors.com/story/lassco-three-pigeons-salvage
I can't verify the age or provenance of this object, but it sure does look similar to those in the article. I have been conservative by saying it is from the early 20th century - it could very well be older.
